Last weekend, we shot “Half of Me,” a short film written, produced, and starring the talented Heather Young. It’s a story based on true events that deal with the struggle between cultural identity and love.
These two days contained a great deal of work and commitment from everyone. Take a look at our metrics below for the scale of the project:
2 Days
20 Hours
2 Lead Actors
6 Supporting Actors
16 Background Talent
10 Crew Members
Total Head Count: 34
As expected, we ran into a couple hiccups - having a very dirty, empty, rental car with some expensive car mounts do not go hand in hand, chasing sunlight were among the few – but overall we gave our best efforts and will have to do a bit of post magic!
Technically speaking, the rigs themselves were really impressive, using jibs, car mounts, sliders, handheld, and sticks. Big shout out to the DP – Scott Lohr (http://wineglassproductions.com) for lending us his talent, time, and resources to this project. Kudos to our director, Chad Davis (Chad Davis Productions), who powered through the weekend, while working 2 other jobs, on top of being a new dad, and who basically doesn’t sleep… ever. And I’d like to recognize the rest of our crew for adding so much to the production, being incredibly knowledgeable, and helpful - Tim Schafer, Joe Chen, Raymond Ou, Leonard Chan, Robert Orozco, Gene Yen, and Arnold Tolentino.
And thank you to all the talent for choosing to hang out with us this weekend – Team 1: Heather Young, Aaron Armijo, Matthew Mongillo, Sioux Matson-Krings, Hannah Cockman, Michael Kan, Paula Sonenberg, Danton Mew! Background: Joseph Camilleri, Matt Slavin, Timothy Erdman, Dialy Paulino, Christina Myers, Donna Myers, Sean Fenton, Phillip Abello, John Leong, Gene Yen, Jenn Tan, May Sheena Antolin, Savanna Pecson, Jen Pecson, Sierra Pecson, and Scott Young! :)
I’d say the greatest part about working on this project is the flexibility, patience, and positive attitude of everyone involved. A lot of people don’t realize how much positivity and proactivity drive a project forward. Through creative compromise and the patience of our cast, we made it through the home stretch on Sunday (10/14), wrapping at about 6:30 PM.
We are hoping to have this released sometime by the end of January 2019. In the meantime, check out some of the Behind the Scenes photos courtesy of Arnold Tolentino!
Stay tuned and stay inspired everyone!
Best,
Kealani Kitaura
