That's a wrap on Block 3 for Punk Kids!!
It's been a whirlwind for the team at Tiny Rabbit working on our feature film project Punk Kids, written and directed by Mike Heff. First, we have a new partnership with the incredibly talented and charismatic Jamal Trulove and the folks at Tru Narrativ. Jamal has provided a new level of leadership as executive producer, making sure we have what we need to get this movie made! Thank you for believing in us, Jamal!
Typical of film production, we've been busy solving problems and pooling expertise to achieve the best film we can make. As 1st assistant director, I organize and corral (read: herd cats!) all the moving parts on set to make sure we get each day's job done. So I see what every department is doing and what challenges they're handling - whether it's Mike D and Andy discussing how we're going to light an entire high school gym, Kealani greeting actors with new masks and temperature checks to keep our folks safe from COVID-19, or Craig on sound figuring out where to hide the microphones (tip: there's one inside the judge's binder at the talent show auditions!). Or maybe it's Liam and Robert assembling a big black flag to create artificial shade, Alex and Sasha fixing lights to the ceiling, or Parker and Uschi teaming up on Sid's hair (that hair has anti-spike technology apparently) or on the choreography for our startlingly awesome boy band performance.
As always, the magic happens between Action and Cut, when the crew stops working and all eyes turn to the actors themselves as they give life to their characters and the scene gets moving. As the last line finishes, the crew looks to the director. What did he think? Did we get it? He confidently smiles - that was the one. He nods to me. I cup my mouth and yell. "We got it! Moving on!"
